Adolescent Sexual Behaviour is an area of special attention in the recent policy documents of India. This finds special place in two policies –Population Policy and NACO policy. This important phase of life is now being seen as “time for missed opportunities”. The poor intergenerational effects because of the neglect of this phase are too serious for our Reproductive and Child health outcomes.

The silence around Sexuality and consequentially sexual behaviour has shown its effect on HIV/AIDS epidemic in terms of high maternal and infant morbidity and also to the psychological development of our youth. This has consequentially lead to unacceptable levels of sexual coercion and rapes. The overall environment of development of adolescents has taken a serious beating. Service providers are no exception. Their knowledge, skills and attitudes to address adolescent sexuality needs are grossly lacking.
